Tell us about your Avatar

My avatar is of an Oreo cookie with plastic sticks formed to resemble the 1701 Enterprise. The picture came from the Oreo people.

Here is a story:

Mine represents "Man into Space".
The goal of Mankinds mandate to become one with the Universe and our destiny as thinking concious beings.

Mine is a painting I did of a girl who attended one of my college art classes. And she lived with me for a while. Very Happy

You know, I thought there was something odd about the photo booth I used...

No... I just loved the image of the Dreamworks version of Puss in Boots from the first promotional image of him, for Shrek 2, that I saw!
Very Happy

Gord Green, I am glad you like the Men into Space avatar. I did a screen grab of the Men into Space end credits to prove my theory that the rocket symbol was covering up a cigarette package advertisement. The rocket symbol is only on a few end credits. I was never able to prove it, but a least you ended up with a fancy avatar.

I thank you BDT!

It's classic, classy, retro and symbolic of the "Ad Astra!" concept!

For many years this was my avatar, but a year or so ago I decided to switch to the painting, and I really like it better.

So, we only have four members who want to tell us how they decided on their .....avatars????

Don't be shy. Go for it.

Has anyone ever has a GIF as an avatar? I vaguely remember a couple of Gifs when I first joined All Sci-fi. Maybe Bud remembers.

Oh God, please DON'T use gifs as avatars, folks! Shocked

It's hard to concentrate on what the posts say while one of those annoying things is flashing the same picture over and over and over.

I dislike gifs because they're like a visual version of a broken record! Rolling Eyes

So, as a favor to old Bud . . . please, no gifs as avatars. I'll be eternally grateful. Very Happy

What's that, Bud? You want me to switch to the gif version of my avatar...?

Other avatars I have been known to use:

That last one wasn't really my idea, but on that forum we all got Battlestar Galactica titles, and I got "Captain Kara "Starbuck" Thrace"...

Bud, you failed to answer my question. Yes; No; or I don't remember are acceptable answers.

Yes!

Custer had one, and I asked him to change it to a jpeg. He was kind enough to do so.

Please, folks! Your hardworking site administrator (who is spending hours each day restoring broken Photobucket jpegs for his members) really HATES gifs! Sad

Can we please NOT have gifs as avatars? They are annoying and distracting! If you want to attract people's attention, write interesting posts with nice jpegs! Shocked

The avatar using the Shadow comes from me scanning the cover of the March 15th 1937 issue of the pulp, the oldest one of that series I have. The chap with the eye-patch is the male half of "Hawk & Fisher," a fantasy series by Simon R. Green... from the cover of the first novel, by Luis Royo. Doing a quick image search for Custer, General George Armstrong Custer is way in the lead, with strangely few pictures of Jesse Custer from the "Preacher" TV series... but I did find this one, which might come in handy one day!

Simply a screen grab of Lance Fuller in Metalunan makeup (as Brack) from This Island Earth (1955).
