The plot of this sci-fi black comedy involves the crew of a small starship whose mission is to cruise the galaxy in search of unstable stars, which they blow up with nuclear devices (a questionable concept, to say the least. Blow up a star because it's going to blow up? Okay, but . . . well, never mind).

They were destroying unstable planets, actually. Early in the film, the ship's computer announces (in a breathy, sexy female voice): "The target planet has been destroyed. This sector is now cleared for colonization."

Presumably that means an unstable planet is a potential danger to other planets in its own solar system and beyond. Still doesn't make a whole lot of sense . . .

Ah-ha! Thanks for the correction. The concept makes more sense than I thought.

Here's the 110 minute documentary about the making of Dark Star. I've ony watched the opening, but it seems to be clever. Perhaps I'll like it better then the movie itself. Laughing

I wish I had seen the original short film version of this. IIRC the feature-length version felt padded...which it was.
