Went to see Alien vs Predator Requiem tonight.

My advice to each and every All Sci-Fi member is to not go see Alien vs Predator Requiem tomorrow night or any other night.

Yes, this is an All Sci-Fi "Turkey Alert"!

I realize that some of the "Alien" movies have not been great, and the previous "Alien vs Predator" didn't exactly thrill 100% of the AvP fans. I bought that movie and then wondered why, because it doesn't hold a candle to "Aliens", that great film from the master filmmaker, James Cameron.

However, after seeing Alien vs Predator Requiem, I think maybe it's predecessor is a pretty good movie.

What do you guys think?

Talk about a movie that killed two movie franchises . . . well, ok, it had been dead for a while already . . . but then they had to go and hack them to pieces.

People should fall on their knees to Ridley Scott for recreating the alien in Prometheus.

Remember when chest busters were scary?

This stinks, it really does, and this coming from a man who owns and loves many a cheese filled B/Z movie. Although I would in no way say that AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) was a good movie, I have a tiny soft spot and found it watchable at least, this hack job makes that film seem like the pinnacle of creature feature nirvana.

A Predator ship encounters problems on board by way of a newly born predator/alien hybrid, it crash lands on Earth (America) and thus Requiem is born as face huggers go crazy, aliens run amok, predator fights back, and the cast of genre stereotypes kill or be killed, the end!

All the makers have done here (apart from attempting to kill off the franchise it seems) is splice together various staples from the other films in the series. Be it the settings or confrontations, they have just upped the blood quota, so the film has no substance what so ever.

Characters so dense and unlikable you root for the monsters by way of having no choice. Dumb teens in angst, Rambo mom, ex-convict trying to do good, you name it and chances are you have seen it in other rubbish murder death kill movies.

There is gore galore which I'm sure will appease the easily pleased, and in one particularly monstrous scene involving a pregnant woman, a sequence for the squeamish to chat on the playground about come Monday morning.

But you honestly would be better off watching some cheap no-budget slasher film from the 70s, because unlike the money-backed hack directors here, they had an excuse back then. Drek 1/10

Yes, indeed, the poor expectant mother in the hospital who was mouth-raped by the alien to pump a chest-buster into her womb was so despicable that I spent the rest of the film reminding myself that this was just a movie, and the studio head probably called the producer, the director, the writer, and all their parents into his office afterwards to say that if they ever tried to make another film again, Russian assassins would make sure that they and all their relatives would be removed from the racial gene pool, using slow and painful methods.

But don't take my word for it! Watch this.

I've tried to watch this pile of garbage three times and never could make it through to the end.

At least the first AvP was big, dumb fun. This thing is just awful and seems to throw things in just to "push the envelope" of bad taste.

Tim, we obviously share the same nagative opinion of this retched movie. Rolling Eyes

However, me seem to differ on the merits of Alien vs Predator (2004). I really like it, and I bought the DVD.

It honors the original by pitting a strong female lead against the Aliens, including the Mother Alien. And it gives her the ally which we'd least expect — an alpha Predator who acknowledges her as a fellow hunter! Shocked

The final battle between the human/Predator team and the Mother Alien is terrific.

And the scene at the end aboard the Predator ship when the dead Predator's chest burst open suggests an incredible sequel which pits the Predators against an Alien/Predator hybrid aboard the spacecraft!

So did I, and I have the DVD as well Smile But Citizen Kane it ain't Laughing

I like the female lead but the mechanics of the alien life cycle is way too fast compared to what we'd seen in all the previous films. Beyond that, it's a very enjoyable SF action flick along the somewhat simplistic lines of Aliens, just not quite at that same level.
