That's an interesting fact concerning the octopi, Butch, & the translation issue.

I just watched the movie last night on TCM. Afterwards Leonard Maltin discussed the film favorably but referred to the squid as an octopus.

I also read a review of the movie who made the same error.

20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA was the first movie I was allowed to travel over the Ohio River to see without adult company.

We lived in southern Indiana, just across from Louisville, Kentucky, so it was a bus trip or a long walk from home. Very rarely did we venture over for movie purposes, but when we did it was always Rickie shepherded by parents or by Aunt Teenie.

But when 20,000 LEAGUES was re-released in '63, my mom decided that I could make the trip..if...if I was in the company of some of my friends. We all, about five of us, got that same dispensation from our parents, so one Saturday afternoon we all caught the bus and headed south.

It was pretty exciting. None of us had ever made the solo trip before, so none of us was exactly expert as to things like, oh, where we got off the bus. Stuff like that. One of the guys was even wearing a jacket and tie because, you know, it was pretty special. And, best of all, we were going to see this great great movie.

We made it safely to the movie and sat and watched it. And, unfortunately, none of us was exactly blown away by it. Oh, it was okay. But not more than that. We'd been seeing movies at the LeRose Theater back home for a couple of years and this just didn't match up to THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. Certainly not to JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. Not even, really, to 4D MAN.

So the bus ride home was subdued, not rowdy and chattery. It was a pleasant day, and very grown-up like, but the movie was, and remains, a mild pleasure and a mild disappointment.

Registration is painless.

Being an ongoing member may be a little less painless. (But no more so than most websites.)
Very Happy

What an utterly useless Search engine this website has. I performed a search for "once upon" and it turned up zero results; not even this thread or Eadie's thread in TV Shows in Other Genres.

WayneO-
I explained to Bud how I use the search engine in the TARGET EARTH thread here:

http://www.allsci-fi.us/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1450&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I just tried to repeat the same search that I wrote about, which used to work exactly as I described, but now I get the same result that you did: "No topics or posts met your search criteria". Obviously, the search feature is broken, but maybe they'll fix the problem in the next few days. Even though it was clunky, it was still useful.

Hate to say this, guys, but there is no "they".

Randy handled all the technical stuff until he had his stroke, and for a few weeks after that his son Sean said he would maintain the board in Randy's absence.

But I've been calling Randy's number for over a month and leaving messages. No calls have been returned. And now the number has been disconnected.

I've repeatedly left messages asking them to please help me transfer ASF to a server I would buy myself if they decide not to continue using the server Randy owns .

As I said, I've gotten no answers. Sad

In addition to the search problem, I have about 30 very old messages in my out box that various members never bother to read (mostly folks who joined and never bothered to log in). I can't delete them. I just get an error message like this.

So, gentlemen, there is a very real danger that All Sci-Fi will vanish from the web at some point, when the Everett's just decide they have no interest in paying for Randy's server anymore.

Sorry.

I neglected to mention that I found a phone number serveral weeks ago for Vicki Everett (same address as Randy, in Ohio), who is Randy's wife. I spoke to her once at Randy's phone number when she told me about Randy's stroke.

I've left many messages on her number as well in the last few weeks, also with no answer. And today I did a bit more searching and I found the same number and name listed as being a resident of Belhaven, NC, which is right on the coast, due East of Charlotte.

A few years ago, Randy told me he had a retirement home in NC, so that must be it. Whether or not the Everetts have actually moved there from OH or not isn't certain.
