I found a cool picture of one of the subs from the Disneyland ride and wanted to share it (along with a shameless plug for my own artwork) but the link does not seem to work any more. Oh well, at least you get to see the jpeg of my painting.

Is this a great movie or what?

Captain Brewno of the submarine Allscifi.

[Disclaimer: No aquatic creatures were harmed or killed during the painting of this artwork. No, wait a minute. I think I went to Long John Silver's to celebrate when I finished it. Oh, God. What have I done?]

I was never really overwhelmed by this movie other than enjoying the appearance of the Nautilus. I didn't care for the attempts at humor, found Douglas's role annoying.

In my opinion..and I think I AM in the minority...this movie would have been greater without the style of humor involved.

The NAME of this thread needs a slight change. 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea came out in December 1954 not 1953!

* * * * * * * * * *

LEGO is proposing to make a Nautilus!!! Just go to https://ideas.lego.com/projects/59212 . When 10,000 votes are in it will be made!

It sure looks good:

But the skiff should be removable. The figures are not complete — they need diving versions of the people. (And where's the First Mate?)

(Isn't that the wierdest design for Esmeralda?) I think they need a better box design:

Since Disney has a LOT of their stuff made as LEGO it should be easy!

Ha! That's the first thing that caught my eye when I clicked on the link for the new postings, Eadie.

Thanks, Eadie! This EDCA (number 24) is for correcting my mistake, posting those great pictures, and --- adjusting the sizes to 700px wide as requested! Very Happy

You are GOOD, young lady!

Ned Land's "banjo" appears to be a mockup from a tennis racket.

According to an old song:

Thumbing through a paperback book about Walt Disney yesterday at my local library,I read the author's section on 20,000LUTS. Each time he wrote that a giant octopus attacked the Nautilus. Mad

I assume this weapon was capable of rapid fire and quick reloading. Would that make it a . . . SUBmachine gun?

In the Jules Verne novel, the Nautilus is not attacked by one giant squid during a stormy night at sea.

It is attacked by several mid-sized squids during sunset in a calm ocean.

They actually tried filming the scene that way (not the multiple squids, just the one big squid), and there are photos of it, but it didn't look exciting. So they re-filmed it to take place during a storm at night to make it more exciting.

Actually in the original novel it is a large number of octopi not squids. It was changed to squids in ENGLISH translations.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1954) just finished being shown on TCM along with the Disneyland (ABC 1954 - 1958) version of Operation Undersea in black-and-white. (It was later shown in color on The Wonderful World of Color [NBC 1961 — 1969].)

Originally posted on http://http://www.nautilussubmarine.com/forum/ a picture of the Nautilus deck set being painted. (I enhanced and enlarged it.)
