Frankly, I have no special love for plywood sets, plastic props, and shower curtain costumes that were used because the show had so damn little money! Shocked

What you dismiss as "plywood sets, plastic props and shower curtain costumes" were all part of a deliberate kind of visual stylization called Minimalism -- influenced by budgetary constraints, certainly, but ultimately integral to the show as a whole.

After all, it's been a half century since this series first aired! And since it's supposed to present us with a vision of future, shouldn't we correct it's fuzzy vision a bit with 21st Century technology! Shocked

The problem with "visions of the future" is that, given enough time, they always look dated. Fritz Lang's Metropolis looks like a 1920s version of the future. Forbidden Planet looks like a 1950s version of the future. Star Trek TOS looks like a 1960s version of the future. And Star Trek: The Next Generation couldn't look more '80s if the characters were wearing spandex and shoulder pads and playing keytars!

(Come to think of it, they did wear spandex and shoulder pads.)

While watching my DVDs of Voager today it occurred to me that people who don't like the CGI effect, which replaced the original ones in 1966 series, might not like the CGI effects in all the subsequent series, either. Confused

I mean, they appeal to me mainly because they're a beautiful art form, not just because they look more elaborate than the practical effects..

I've been enamored with CGI since first seeing it in kids' shows like Reboot and the first science fiction film to use them extensively, The Last Starfighter.

But of course, not everybody is an art lover and an amateur artist, like me, so it's not fair to criticize the folks who dislike the enhanced special effects on the TOS box set.

Just thought I'd let those folks know that I respect their opinion in this matter. Very Happy
