Racketeers bump off an honest judge and frame Boris Karloff for the murder. Scientist Edmund Gwenn (the portly little entomologist in "Them!") obtains permission to attempt the revival of the dead man. In a flashy scene, resplendent with equipment, Gwenn's procedure succeeds.
But Karloff appears to be in a trance, and he goes after the gangsters responsible for his execution, terrifying them with his unexpected return from the grave. Each one dies in some violent manner.
The climax is a showdown between the surviving racketeers and Karloff on a stormy night in a cemetery.
Directed by Michael Curtiz, the prolific film maker behind such classics as "The Adventures of Robin Hood", "The Sea Hawk", "Captain Blood", and dozens of others. _________________ ____________

I DVRed this movie from TCM recently, and I was very impressed!
This Michael Curtiz film does some remarkable things with the familiar premise about a resurrected man seeking revenge against his killers.
In the clip below, we see Edmund Gwenn introducing the revived subject of his experiment to a group of high society folks, so that Karloff can demonstrate that he's not only back from dead but still a skilled concert pianist as well!
The wealthy folks in the audience include the group of rich racketeers who framed Karloff for the murder of an honest judge, causing Boris to die in the electric chair!
As Boris plays the piano, he slowly turns his head and focuses his intense gaze on each of these corrupt men one-by-one . . . and they are briefly bathed in a soft light while they appear increasingly guilty and frightened — thus revealing that Boris has acquired a strange psychic power, as if he's an avenging angel who sits in judgement on these evil men.
The Wikipedia article for this movie describes dialog which suggests that the source of Boris' connection with the eventual demise of all the racketeers is caused by a higher power who condemns these guilty men to violent deaths.
This movie is a skillful fusion of science fiction and spiritualism — setting it apart from all the other movies released in the 1930s and 1940s. I highly recommend this unique film to the members of All Sci-Fi.
