I wonder how they are going to do the giant flying saucers over the cities since "V"uh...'borrowed' the image.

It's deliberate effort to not duplicate the Visitor's mother ship ...
... the producers have changed completely the look of Karellan's ship and only brief vague shots are seen in the various trailors:

While I've been a Clarke reader for decades and even met him once, I somehow never got around to reading Childhood's End until recently. While in some ways it holds up, I'd have to argue that it could be improved upon a bit. Clarke was a genius at visualizing sci-fi concepts in print, but I always thought his overall stories tended to be a bit weak and that includes this one. I don't think modern audiences will respond very well to it if they deliver the story close to what Clarke wrote. I'd personally welcome some changes. |

I've always wonder why Asimov fans objected to the recent I, Robot movie. If ever there was a concept that needed to be updated for the 21st century, it's the way we perceive robotics.
I thought the Will Smith films was brilliant and exciting. Hopefully something like that will happen here, too. _________________ ____________

Because it wasn't "I Robot". It was a script that had been floating around Hollywood for nine years, when Universal, who had the movie rights to "I Robot" decided to patch some names and Asimov terms into the existing script. It was hoped that the name, along with Issac Asimov's would lure SF fans in.

As long as we're discussing Asimov in this Clarke thread...
Do you think FOUNDATION might ever be made into a movie (a series of movies, or a TV miniseries, would be a more appropriate in this case), and would you welcome it? If done properly, I think it could be winner.
What I would discourage is a regular TV series, which would quickly degrade into emotional junk if history is any kind of indicator.
PS-
I liked Will Smith's I ROBOT, up until that ridiculous battle at the end. |

Wikipedia kindly gives a link to Archive.org, which has the eight hour-long radio episodes available here. I do actually have the official BBC boxed set of eight audiocassettes, but MP3 files are easier to handle, these days. |
