FWIW, here's a sample of Shane Johnson's C-57D plans published back in the '80s.

I like the Shane Johnson plans, because they include 8 deployable hull-mounted blaster cannons. Four on the upper side of the disc, and four beneath it. They are not index-marked in your top image. But they are the two black hemispheres on the left side (the deployed ones), and the two on the right side (the retracted ones).

Good for space battles! Like... if they ever encounter a Romulan Empire, that wants war with the Earth.

Over on FaceBook Bill Malone showed this picture and lamented that he didn't have one.

No one could have had one. It is the 1956 Pontiac Club de Mer and only the prototype still exists.

Here are some color photos I found.

Bill is in the process of (slowly) restoring Robby's "Vehicle" (as Robby called it). When Bill purchased it from Movie World it was still in it's The Twilight Zone episode The Rip Van Winkle Caper appearance:

I could see the '56 Pontiac Club de Mer as the Arrow Mobile for the DC Comic hero Green Arrow.

Painted yellow of course as in the comics.

The TCM showing of Forbidden Planet last night was a disappointment. The segments withe Ben Burtt and Craig Barron was too short. The spinning wheel they showed for the Krell shuttle car lights didn't even match what was shown at the Academy presentation, The Mysteries of the Krell!

What they did show was a better color version of this:

transforming into this:

They also showed the 88" saucer landing:

followed by a picture of someone holding the slate in front of the miniature set. (I couldn't find a picture of it.)

They didn't even mention those who were the principla SFX workers (list is from http://nzpetesmatteshot.blogspot.com/2011/03/forbidden-planet-shakespeare-in-space.html)

Which is far from complete!

She believes it to be a carafe to hold water to add to the coffee pot as necessary!

One of my reference books calls it an ideal car for "claustrophobes, fresh-air fiends, sun-tan specialists, and couples on the verge of divorce."

This is what I imagine the desert around the ship looks like before it turns into the oasis around Morbius' house. At least the colors are right.

This very high resolution picture of the ship landed appears to show that one ramp doesn't have the conveyor belt.

You will have to make it bigger to see what I see.

Good call, Eadie. Here's the skinny on the three ramps.

One has stairs and red guard rails. This is the one we see frequently throughout the movie, with guys going up and down.

In the background we see the ramp that has stairs but no guardrails. Only two guys are seen coming down that ramp after the ship lands.

This is the best picture I could get, with the first guy at the bottom of the ramp, because the rest of the guys who come down the ramp with the rails get in front of that area when the second man comes down.

The ramp in the back (out of frame on the right) would have to be the one with the conveyor belt -- although I'm sure it wasn't actually built onto the full-sized ship because it was never intended to be shown. However, it is on the model.

And yet the model has the conveyor belt in the position of the steps without the handrails on the full-sized ship. The third ramp on the model (far right) doesn't appear in the landing scene at all. It's behind the support pedestal. That ramp on the model might not have had stairs or a conveyor belt, since it was never intended to be shown.

Super image, Eadie! You can even see the "invisible" flying wires (and the fingerprints of everybody who's handled the photo). Very Happy

Holy mackerel, you're right! Eadie's picture is much more HD than I realized. I made this cropped version from her original Photopucket picture, using the method you taught me for getting to the full-sized image, not just the scaled-down version used here on the board.

You can easily see that the left-hand ramp is the conveyor belt, and it's almost flush with the upper edges of the ramp.

If the full-sized ship on the sound stage had built a conveyor belt into the ramp to the left of the stairs that Adams and company came down, the crewmen shown coming down that ramp would have been walking on an extremely steep incline — and their feet would would have been almost even with the sides of the ramp.

This close-up of the man coming down shows that his feet are noticeably lower than the edge of the ramp, and if you click on the picture you'll be able to watch the YouTube video of this scene and see that he's clearly walking down stairs, not coming down a steep incline.

Sidebar: Eadie continues to bring up the most interesting questions about Forbidden Planet of any member on the board — not that we all haven't had our moments as well.
Very Happy

But pay attention to his final step from the ramp to the ground. That's a big step, like the ramp is missing one or two bottom steps.

Also note that we don't see him coming down the entire ramp. He just sort of "pops out" about halfway down.

What's this woolly material I feel over my eyes?

Did somebody forget to feed Goldie (descendant of Tanner the M-G-M lion at the beginning of Forbidden Planet.)

So, what exactly are you suggesting? That a man climbed up the conveyor belt and then stood up, walked down carefully, and hopped over the gap below the end of the belt?

Interesting, but the second man starts at the top, comes all the way down, and stands much too tall to be walking on the conveyor belt, which is nearly level with the sides of the ramp -- if they built it at all, which seems unlikely. It was never shown in the movie.
