A website called Arch Daily has a fine article about E.P.C.O.T. (the super-city, not the theme park), and it describes the project this way.
______________________________________________

The original idea for EPCOT was a radially planned city with a 50-acre domed megastructure.

The circumference would house people in high-density apartments and single-family houses. Bridging the urban and suburban areas was a web of electric monorails and PeopleMovers, traveling across a greenbelt in between.

The climate-controlled center would host international corporations, a convention center, and a 30-storied cosmopolitan hotel while the downtown would feature a weather-protected zone of themed shops.

That sounds an awful lot like Tomorrowland (the 2015 movie, not the section of Disneyland with the gorgeous Moonliner).

Walt Disney mastered the concept of life-imitates-art-imitates-life-imitates-art, et cetera when he created a section of Disneyland which predicted the future, then updated it repeatedly when the future kept catching up.

Of course, we all know that in some ways the future did NOT catch up — especially when his dream of E.P.C.O.T. failed to materialize.

But in 2015, a movie about a "future city" was produced, and the moral of that story was that mankind lost its dream of a shining future. Whether or not that movie's happy ending will come true is highly debatable . . . but it by God better, or our cities will get more and more crowded and downright crappy to live in! Shocked

However, Walt Disney had a real-life plan to solve this problem too, and perhaps we should focus on THAT part of the unfulfilled future even before we try build space stations and Moon colonies.

Strangely enough, E.P.C.O.T.'s basic layout looks remarkably like a Moon colony — except for the water, of course! Very Happy

(Ah, but I digress .. . )

These pieces of concept art alone should fire our imaginations — and while we're at it, we should fire some of our dimwitted politicians who can't see the crushing need to make this dream come true! Rolling Eyes

But I'll just let Walt tell us more about his notion of how the ole' home town oughta look in the 21st century. (Okay, take it away, Walt! Cool )
