Mind Trip: Humans To Live Forever By 2030 As Person's Consciousness Could Be Uploaded To Computer"

"Our scanning machines today can clearly capture neural features as long as the scanner is very close to the source. Within 30 years, however, we will be able to send billions of nanobots-blood cell-size scanning machines through every capillary of the brain to create a complete noninvasive scan of every neural feature. A shot full of nanobots will someday allow the most subtle details of our knowledge, skills and personalities to be copied into a file and stored in a computer."

Wonderful video, David. I was hoping for Tier One -- but alas, my credit check didn't quite . . . well, you know.

Concerning the concept itself, every time I hear this idea I just shake my head sadly. The problem with "transferring a person's consciousness" to a robot body (or an android or a clone) is that it doesn't really continue the life of the person whose consciousness is being transferred.

In other words, it ain't immortality -- just the illusion of same.

The word "consciousness" is a bogus term that has exactly the same meaning as "soul" -- which, from a scientific point of view, has no meaning at all.

The only thing really being "transferred" in these stories are the personal memories and personality traits of the person involved. What the transfer does is allow the recipient (the computer, android, clone, etc.) to imitate the behavior of the original.

That's it. No immortality. Just a great impersonation of the original.

I could find a guy who looked like me, coach him to act like me, pay him to learn all about me, and let him move into my house and pretend to be me after I'm dead.

Basically, I'd get the same level of "immortality" that way as I would if I "transferred my consciousness" to this clone I had made of myself -- (except that he's 15 years younger. Very Happy )

Tom Scott is great, he has a way of looking at the consequences that others miss. Check out his other videos, "Danger, Humans" is my favorite.
