Remember the bygone days when we were kids and loved to read comic books?
I don't just mean the great stories, I mean the amazing ads in the back for products we yearned to have! Like those amazing 3-D glasses, the magical Hypno Coins to mesmerize girls, and 7' Tall Monster replicas with glow-in-the-dark eyes . . . for only a dollar!
_______________
_______________
_______________
But how many of us remember the Bazooka Joe Bubble Comics?
More to the point, how many of us ever noticed all those offers in the lower right corners for amazing things like the ones listed below, many of which were FREE with a few comics sent in to the company!
Look at this list of childhood treasures!
~ baseball sun glasses
~ Zodiac birthstone necklace
~ Air Combat Googles
~ multi-blade pocket knive
~ pocket-sized camera
~ gold-plated initialed ring
~ policeman's kit with handcuffs, badge, and whistle
~ gold-plated ring with pearl inset
~ three-section telescope for viewtin the planets
~ two-way aluminum Space Telephones
~ 24 karat gold-plated "lucky" Baseball Ring
~ Major League "Ball & Strike" counter
~ adventure novels about heroes like Davy Crockett
~ Pearl heart-shaped pendant - perfect gift for mom
~ Genuine aluminum canteen with felt-lined carrying case
~ Pocket-sized Erector Set for building toys
~ Seven-piece mini tool set with carrying case
~ Official Bazooka sweat shirt
~ Genuine leather baseball glove
~ Magic Magnet Set for doing amazing tricks
And finally, the most amazing one of all . . . and I'm quoting the ad verbatim!
~ Radioactive Isotope, unstable molecule! Taken internally this element causes mutation into crime-fighting powerhouse . . . usually. Send $3M and two comics.
Enjoy these jpegs of the Bazooka Joe comics — which took me a few hours to carefully restore. [/size]

Boy, do those Bazooka Joe comics take me back to my grammar-school days. I always hated bubble gum, though. Never could stand the sickly-sweet taste of the stuff.
Were those bilingual English-French comics made for packs of gum sold in Canada? |

I skipped the non-English ones I noticed when I was downloading them, but a few slipped passed me.
I was amused by the kinds of items the comics advertised. Telescopes, two-way aluminum Space Telephones, Air Combat Googles, etc.
I'm sure they cheap as hell, but it still seems cool. _________________ ____________

Morbius, you sly devil, I suspect youere trying to tempt me into doing a nice picture-filled post about some of the "Free Inside" toys we remember from our golden kidhood days!
I'll have to do a bit of research to determine if there are enough good jpegs of the toys we remember (and the ones we don't) to make a post as good as the Bazooka one above.
Meanwhile, perhaps some of the members will share images of their favorite cereal toys.
Thanks for the suggestion. Wish me luck! _________________ ____________

I remember a frog man but I think you had to send in the cereal box top. You would put baking soda in his fin and he would rise to the surface, release the bubble and sink until the next bubble. |

Here's a nice video of the frogman toy you mentioned, along with several other toys. Hopefully I'll be able to find more videos of great "cereal toys".

I remember the frog men being much bigger, but maybe because I was much smaller. Thanks. |

I don't remember where it came from, but I had a submarine that the design was based on the U.S.S. Nautilus that operated like the frogmen.
My Mom gave me one a couple of decades back, it is silver, just like my original. I can't bring myself to take it out of the package. Maybe I will and hang it from my Christmas tree. I have also seen modern ones in other colors.

I have never taken a photo of it, but here is a video of one in action with some history on the toy.

This video has me wanting to open mine and play with it. I think I'm going to do that.
You can still buy them, Amazon has them.
