I just made the screenshot below from my Blue-ray, Eadie. It seems to be about the same amount of image as the one in your top picture.

What did you use to make the slightly smaller picture on the bottom?

In the Vol#4 no#1 issue of CINEFANTASTIQUE author Steve Rubin relates this bit of knowledge :

So, obviously what we have been viewing all these years is at best a "rough cut" of the movie. This explains the sloppy editing and jump cuts throughout. The cut of the movie was mainly done for time....The running time, especialy for a "B" picture aimed at kids had to run around 1 1/2 hours to maximize the number of showings each day in a theatre.

Your Blu-ray is showing more coverage than either CinemaScope sample, Bud. Is the camera moving at all during that shot?

I didn't. It's from a site showing the history of all sorts of technical innovations in movies and TV. This site is constantly changing as the administrator finds new materials and, because he appears to HATE sci-fi, fantasy and horror, removes any examples of them.

Look at this:

Do you suppose that there was any aboard the C-57-D? The history of the "Ancient Rocket" brand seems to have already started:

What career did Alta persue? Same as her husband! She enlisted and became Major Altaira Morbius-Adams — Space Ranger!!!

Nope. The camera follows the characters over to the table and stops when they reach the klystron frequency modulator. Notice that the men in the background are in almost exactly the same positions and poses as they are in the Eadie's top picture, which shows more than the one below.

Last night I re-watched the workprint of FORBIDDEN PLANET that the Barron's used to score the film and was struck by how well then excised scenes could be digitaly restored to a new copy of the film.

The on ship scenes could perfectly insert into the flow of dialogue to establish the friction between Adams and Farnum right from the start. It would also explain why "the ship can make it's own eclipses..." and why it was necessary. (A scene that completely confused me when I first saw it at age 10!)

The ride to the residence could be eliminated....(It gave no new or pertinent information anyway.) The back projection as well as the dialogue was un-necessary.

The discussions re: the unicorn, both at the residence and in the walking scene with Adams and Ostrow, could easily be enhanced and edited into the film. Both scenes had very good audio. Both added to the depth of the story.

All and all we're talking about less than ten minutes of dialogue and visuals that would greatly enhance the depth of the story.

A copy of the alternate scenes was included on the Videodisk edition (The record album size one!) I believe they were also available on the Blu-ray anniversary edition. At one time they could be found on YouTube....haven't seen them lately. It looks like Warner Bros. had them deleted because of copywrite issues.

As far as I know the Barron's copy was taken back by MGM and thus into the hands of WB, and there may still be video copies floating around of the entire print.

The only really divergent scenes were the ones I mentioned.

There were MANY other scenes shot, but would have been destroyed after the editors cut.

Do you want your own FORBIDDEN PLANET uniform?
A site called FAB GEAR has a complete one offered for sale. Tunic top, pants, belt and cap are all available.

http://www.fabgearusa.com/forbidden-planet-replica-uniform-tunic/

"This replica tunic from Forbidden Planet was worn by all United Planets crew members. The heavy grey cotton twill top has padded shoulders and a tufted chest give that heroic look. Heavy-duty snaps allow for ease of on-and-off. Shoulder markings for both commander and lieutenant are included. Available in Medium, Large or X Large. Matching Pants available."

Even a Blaster is available!

So you must have a copy of this "workprint" then?

What kind of scam is this? The pictures are NOT of what they are purportedly selling but those of the Barbie-sized dolls that were shown on page 39 of this thread!

WHY NO PICTURES OF THE ACTUAL CAP, TUNIC OR TROUSERS?

Maurice, I have the copy from the videodisk....around 25 minutes of film excised or replaced in the released print.

It contains the scenes I described (plus alternate versions without effects or music added.).

As far as I've been able to find the complete original "workprint" is a 16mm filmstrip and is either in the hands of Bebe Barron or Warner Brothers. While the whole thing would be interesting to view the scenes I mentioned above are the ones I think could be integrated into a "Director's Cut" type edition.
