A downbeat final scene, then. If the Abaddon can be tracked to its starbase, then a Klingon attack, without warning, there could be horrific. The Abaddon itself, if docked, wouldn't have shields up or any capacity to fight... or if it wasn't there, the base would still be destroyed. One battle does tend to lead to the next battle, and so on...

True enough. An attack on an unprepared Abaddon in her home base and on the base itself or an attack on the base while the Abaddon was away could be catastrophic - for the attacker anyway.

You see, the dreadnought while in dock and shuttered has an impregnable carbon-neutron armor. One upcoming installment has a scene revolving around this. The asteroid base itself is heavily armed with advanced sensor arrays, so it would be difficult for an enemy to sneak up on it. The entrance to the base is cloaked of course, and has a hatch clad in the same carbon-neutron armor as the dreadnought.

An attacking force could possibly tunnel through the rock of the asteroid itself, but that might take a while; they would face the very real risk of encountering a locked and loaded Abaddon coming to the rescue . . . or waiting for them inside.

A bit different from a run-of-the-mill Starbase, then. Using an asteroid seems a great idea, and it is reassuring to know that, even at rest, the Abaddon is fully armoured.

Magnificent work, Trekriffic! Very Happy

Like most of our members, I'm guilty of enjoying your photo-novels but forgetting to offer a few well-deserved compliments from time to time! Embarassed

I know how much you enjoy creating these, just like I'm have a ball finding and enhancing those Starlog articles from Archive.org (not to mention the two and half novels I've posted on All Sci-Fi), but I know that they ARE being enjoyed, just like we've enjoyed The Battle for Sherman's Planet.

So, keep up the good work, sir! Our loyal fans are counting on us! Cool

The story is fantastic! the pictures are creative and a marvel to behold! Me [Robert (Butch) Day], Eadie, Pye-Rate and MommySan are enjoying this Star Trek: TOS movie greatly! Keep up the GREAT work!

But what happened?

Your last post didn't post well at all. The next to the last picture isn't there. All I see is a white square area with flickr in the upper right corner, and what appears to be either a folder or a stylized camera (with an X over it) in the center with the words "this photo is no longer available" just beneath it. Under all that is the sentence "Rock and a Hard Place by trekriffic, on flickr". (All of the blue words in the sentence act as a link.)

Did you forget to post the picture or make a proper link? Or did you delete the picture for resins of your own?

I edited the next to last photo with a different angle for the Abaddon and saved it to replace the old image in my Flickr! album. It's been re-posted now so you should see it.

HA! I TOLD you this thread was being enjoyed by our members, Trekriffic! ( . . . in a PM that's still in my out box, so you haven't read my pep talk yet.Very Happy )

The list of confirmed fans is currently:

Custer
Gord Green
Butch
Eadie
Eadie's mother
Pye-rate
. . . and ME! Very Happy

You can bet your asteroid that plenty of other people are reading it but simply haven't added a reply! So, keep up the good work! Cool

PS: Remember to hit "enter" to add a line break after each image so that the caption appears BELOW it. I fixed the ones above already. Very Happy

If you don't put that line break after the picture, the caption starts at the lower right corner and wraps around to finish under the picture. That makes the page wider than it needs to be, just as if the images were too big (even when they aren't).

You bet I'm enjoying it!

I may not comment on each entry, but I'm checking them out and I'll pipe up after some digestion.
