AMEE stands for Autonomous Mapping Exploration and Evasion , and is the robot featured in RED PLANET (2000).

BOSTON DYNAMICS has been developing robots for DARPA over the past few years and one of their newest developments is a dog size robot similar to AMEE.

The robot in the film becomes damaged in the crash landing of it's storage section and accidently flips over from exploration to military mode.

Although why the heck that programming would be included on this mission is beyond me!

The BOSTON DYNAMICS Dogbot is still amazing!

When they invent an affordable household robot who can cook and clean for me I'll be the first to buy it! As long as it doesn't have a "combat mod". Shocked

I noticed that in Blade Runner 2049 our main character didn't have a robot helpmate... instead Joi was a hologram, an updated version of Amazon's Alexa perhaps. The hologram brought a delicious, steaming meal to the dining table... but what he physically was able to eat was rather more mundane.

Perhaps that is the future route we will take. A projected hologram would be cheaper, and hey, a robotic vacuum cleaner is already fairly affordable.
