In 1993, CBS television aired "Space Rangers", a Sci-Fi action series about a deep space police force stationed near the edge of the known galaxy. Trained as part peacekeepers and part marines, we follow a team of "elite" misfits as they dispense law in their own way. The year is 2104 and this team operates from the Space Rangers headquarters on "Planet Avalon". The Rangers fight human and alien criminals, but none as fierce and deadly as an alien race called the Banshees.

The cast is outstanding:
Jeff Kaake plays "Captain John Boon"
Marjorie Monaghan plays "JoJo"
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa plays "Zylyn"
Jack McGee plays "Doc"
Clint Howard plays "Mimmer"
Danny Quinn plays "Daniel"
Linda Hunt plays "Commander Chennault"

If any member of the board is interested in receiving a copy of this Blu-ray, please PM me.

Had hopes for this mid-season replacement sf TV series.
Just never warmed up to it.

The show actually did well. What CBS didn't like was that the violence wasn't A-Team violence. In S.R., when they fired their guns, things died. I guess CBS wanted something more bubblegum.

Jack McGee lobbied hard at CBS to keep the show on the air.

I had some crappy DVD-Rs from old VHS tapes of a few episodes for several years, but then Randy provided me with great DVD-Rs from a high quality source.

I love this show and I wish it had succeeded. There were six episodes filmed, only four were shown.

I have all six . . . Very Happy

Enoy the cool opening credits.

This is my favorite from the early 1990s.

It had the feel (to me at least) of Andre Norton's space stories.

My DVDs of this wonderful six-episode series came today, and the picture quality is actually a smidgen better than the much-appreciated DVD-Rs Randy sent me several years ago.

It also includes a second disc which is described on Amazon this way:

Disc 2

Space Ranger Chronicles 1 (Combination of Episodes 1 & 3)
Space Ranger Chronicles 2 (Combination of Episodes 2 & 5)
Space Ranger Chronicles 3 (Combination of Episodes 6 & 4)

And the price tag for this feast of sci-fi fun is a whopping $5.89! How could I say no to deal like that? Very Happy

In view of the recent triumphant return of All Sci-Fi and Randy's generous gifts to me over the years (such as the DVD-Rs of this short-lived series) I just had to post this jpeg again! Sad

Imagine my delight today when I discovered that Youtube has all six episodes, with reasonably good picture quality.

Enjoy them, fellow Space Rangers! Very Happy

Some of the alien worlds encountered on Space Rangers. Wikipedia.

Avalon: The Space Rangers operate out of this Earth colony from their base at Fort Hope. The planet is similar looking to the Painted Desert of the American southwest.

New Venus: a former Earth colony overrun by the deadly interdimensional species knows as the Banshees who remain an ongoing enemy for the Space Rangers.

While most of the men elected to abandon the colony, the women chose to remain and fight off the invaders. In time, the planet became an Amazon-like matriarchy.

Jo Jo Thorson who is the tough as nails pilot of the sling ship # 377, nicknamed Lizzy by the crew, grew up on New Venus. Naturally enough, she has a hatred of the Banshees.

Skaraab: A desolate world where the days are so hot that the twin suns burn away all surface life in one day. The vegetation has to grow back overnight, and is so aggressive that it will consume animal tissue to survive. The planet is also home to the ancient Graaka burial temple.

The Graaka are a fierce warrior race. Zylyn, who is a Graaka, is a crew member of the Lizzy. He wears a repressor collar in order to control his rage.

Blood Nebula: This world is a favorite hiding spot for smugglers and slavers. Its red clouds jam most sensors making law enforcement in the area difficult at best.

Vee' Lon Prime: A wet, sandy and tropical home to the reptilian Vee' Lons.

Katraz: This planet is a penal colony. Here the galaxy's worst criminals are dumped off never to be heard from again. There are no guards because there is no way to leave the planet. The world is ruled by anarchy among the inmates.

Mike, thanks for adding a great reply to this thread! Very Happy

Because of you, I discovered that all six of the YouTube links to the episodes needed to be replaced with new, working versions! Shocked

While doing so, I decided that the short-lived Space Rangers series from 1993 was the perfect follow-up to the episodes of Rocky Jones, Space Ranger (1954) we're about to conclude on All Sci-Fi's Saturday Live Chat!

Therefore, I created posts for the upcoming features of our live chats which include the first two episodes of Space Rangers. Cool

As I've said each week in my post for the chats, Scotpens, Trekriffic, Gord Gord, Phantom, and I will be grateful to anyone who drops in — however briefly — to say hello to our dedicated little group of synchro-cinema chatters!
