Hmmm...
So here is a true story.
My doctor once told me that I had the lowest cholesterol he'd ever seen. He had to get the lab to run the test twice.
Great! I've got super low cholesterol.
Oddly, I've had cancer twice...including colon cancer at the young age of 44 despite having no family history of the disease.
Inexplicably low cholesterol coupled with inexplicable cancer? There might be something to that headline. |

Wow, this just gets better! Back to the Future II is demonstrating more and more ways in which it did make some correct predictions!
Last night the Cubs lost, 6-0. Tonight they won 5-1. If they can win the next three games, they'll fulfill the Back to the Future II prediction — "Cubs sweep Series in 5!
Friday is the next game. I can hardly wait!
But why is it important for the Cubs to win the World Series?
Well, the quick answer is that it would be funny and ironic that Back to the Future II predicted the team would win after waiting 70 years for the chance. If the Cubs actually do win, the movie's "million to one shot" only missed it by one year.
And just look at Cubs' player Javier B??ez! He almost looks as much like a baseball player from the future as that robot Cubs player I drew!
______
But wait — there's another reason. Was that brief scene in which Marty sees the 3D billboard announce the winner of the World Series just a quick joke . . . or was it actually important to the story?
The answer is . . . it was VERY important to the story! In fact, that one event drove the plot throughout the rest of the movie.
Consider the consequences of that moment.
The old man (Terry, the guy who fixed Biff's car after he crashed into the manure truck in 1955) said to Marty, "I wish I could go back to the start of the season and put some money on the Cubbies!"
Suddenly Marty has an epiphany: buy Gray's Sports Almanac and take it back to 1985.
But Doc discovers what Marty is up to and tosses the Almanac in the trash.
However, Biff retrieves it and steals the DeLorean long enough to deliver it to himself in 1955.
As a result, the timeline is drastically altered between 1955 and 1985: Biff becomes insanely wealthy, he trashes the town of Hill Valley, he murders George McFly, he somehow coerces Loraine McFly into marrying him, and he almost kills Marty!
By the way, screenwriter Bob Gale says that millionaire Biff was deliberately based on Donald Trump!
Back to the Future II Writer Confirms Old Biff is Based on Trump
* I'm Biff Tannen, and I approve of this murder.
The rest of the film is all about Marty and Doc desperately trying prevent the drastic change in the timeline that was caused by Biff becoming rich and powerful.
And it all started when the Cubs won the World Series and inspired Marty to buy Gray's Sports Almanac.
So, I think it would be wonderful if the very event that created the plot's primary conflict in Back to the Future II actually happened . . . especially if they won on Sunday in game 5 at Wriggly Field, as predicted in the movie.

This highly enjoyable (if less than perfect) tribute to Back to the Future features a talented Michael J. Fox lookalike and imaginative glimpse at what Marty might encounter if he arrived in the Hill Valley in the real 2015, instead of the marvelous version we see in Back to the Future II.
The funniest moment is the cameo by the actor who played Goldie Wilson when he passes Marty on the street while he's watching President Barack Obama on TV in a store window, and he hears Marty mistakenly think that President Obama is actually President Goldie Wilson.
"Hey, that's a good idea! I could run for president! I'd be the most powerful man in the world! Thanks a lot, fella!"
Give it a look, and try to forgive the limitations of this sincere and loving tribute to a great trilogy. Here's how the video is described by the person who posted it on YouTube.

On October 21st, 2015, this short, "Back to the 2015 Future", premiered at Universal CityWalk as part of the 30th anniversary celebration. It features cameos from original Back to the Future cast members as well as sets from the original movies. It played five sold-out theatrical screenings, which you can attend ... if you have a time machine. Otherwise you can watch it here now.

And here's a bonus feature, the surprise appearance of Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd on Jimmy Kimmel Live, October 21nd 2015, on the anniversary of the date in which Back to the Future II was set.
They're both dressed in costume, and they arrive in a DeLorean with clouds of dry ice fog, while the movie's dramatic theme plays and the audience goes wild!
I LOVE this!

Gord, you're amazing!
I'm watching it right now before the World Series "moment of truth" happens tonight and the Cubs are the victors, which will keep my dream alive about them winning the World Series the way Back to the Future II predicted.
Meanwhile, here's a Youtube video that reunites Michael, Christopher, and Lea in 2015.

________________________________
I found an interesting article written last year which explains why the Cubs didn't win the World Series in 2015, as Back to the Future II predicted.
Here's the last two paragraphs of the article, which explain how the events which happened during the 2nd and 3rd movies altered the timeline and changed the 2015 World Series winner!
________________________________
We leave the [three] films with a 2015 in which anything can happen. There is no set future anymore. All that stuff that happened in the beginning — Marty's kid hanging around with Griff, the crash through the clock tower, the release of Jaws 19 and, most importantly, the Cubs winning — doesn't necessarily have to happen in this new timeline. It's like a butterfly effect thing. Marty changed the course of history.
To sum up, the 2015 showcased in the early part of BTTF2 is not the 2015 that Marty and Jennifer will end up living through. It'll be a different timeline and one in which, say, the Washington Nationals could have won the World Series in 2015.
________________________________
This came as a revelation for me. I'd never thought of this idea.
The reason the Cubs are playing in the World Series this year instead of last year is NOT because Back to the Future II was wrong!
It's because we're not living in the same timeline that Marty visited in the movie. We're living in an alternate version caused by the TWO major changes in history which happened in Back to the Future II — the "Bad 1985" which Biff caused, and "Mostly Restored 1985" which replaced it.
The "Mostly Restored 1985" (and thus the "New 2015" which followed it) would be very different from the original timeline, caused by events such as Marty NOT ruining his life when he avoided the automobile accident that happened when he tried to prove he wasn't chicken.
Even more drastic would be all the changes caused by Doc Brown living in 1885!
He's married to a woman who originally died by falling into a ravine, and he has two brilliant sons who grew up while being educated by their mother (who traveled through time with her husband), and their father — a scientific genius who was intimately familiar with advanced technology . . . all the way from 1955 to 2015!
The "ripple effect" of these changes taking place from 1885 until 2015 — 130 years — would be extreme and unavoidable.
Bear in mind that the two sons, Jules and Verne, would eventually sire offspring who would also be educated far beyond anything possible by the Universities of the day. They would be taught about historic events which hadn't happened yet, along with technology yet to be invented!
I would even go so far as to suggest that our current lack of things we saw in Back to the Future II (like the wacky fashions and the advanced technology such as hover boards and flying cars) might be explained by the ripple effect caused by Dr. Emmett L. Brown, his wife, and his two sons — all of whom existed 130 years ago and all of whom possessed knowledge about technology and history that didn't exist yet!
So, in this alternate timeline we now live in, the Cubs ARE in the World Series, but it happens one year later than we expected, based on the movie. This is actually a remarkably small change in the events we expected, all things considered.
Having said that, even if the Cubs don't win game 7 tonight, it still represents a relatively minor difference in the timeline we saw in the movie, in which the Cubs played in the Series in 2015 instead of this year, and they "swept the series in 5".

Thomas F. Wilson is undoubtedly just as much the star of the three movies as anyone in them. And during the years after they were released, he demonstrated what a remarkable person he was with the funny song he wrote, which he performed frequently to the delight of fans of the trilogy on occasions like the one shown below.

I spent a few hours yesterday writing that previous post to convince myself that if the Cubs didn't win, I wouldn't be too disappointed.
I wanted the Back to Future trilogy to be enhanced and elevated by that amazing World Series even if the Cubs didn't win, because of the way it coincided (only one year late) so miraculously with a key element the plot.
But after enjoying all three movies yesterday and then watching the game last light, I was enthralled by that 10-inning drama and the heroic efforts both teams made to be the best baseball team in the world.
And now, because of that shift in the timeline, here's what the USA Today Hill Valley Edition looks like now! (Note that it even gets the president right.)
