Poplular, witty British satire from the popular, witty novel by Leonard Webberley. It's set in the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, a tiny and totally harmless country that takes great pride in being several hundred years behind the rest of the world in matters of culture, technology, and politics. But they aren't too happy with their economic state, so they devise a clever money-making scheme: declare war on America, then deliberately lose and rake in the war relief.

Wouldn't you know it, the plan backfires and they win!

How? A small shipload of soldiers (armed with medievel weapons) sails to New York, storms Central Park, and fails to attract much attention. But before returning home they capture a scientist and his football-sized invention the Q-Bomb, the most powerful weapon on the planet.

Suddenly the tiny country finds itself capable of shaking a very manacing fist at the entire world.

As in "Dr. Strangelove", Peter Sellers plays three roles. Co-starring Jean Seberg, David Kossoff, and William Hartnell.

Expertly directed by sci-fi veteran Jack Arnold ("It Came from Outer Space", "The Creature from the Black Lagoon", "The Space Children", etc.). Followed four years later by a slightly less effective sequel, "The Mouse on the Moon".

To this day, any mention of the name Dmitri brings "The bomb, Dmitri" to mind... which I just checked on Wikiquote to make sure my memory wasn't playing tricks...

I've downloaded a copy, but it's just 1:19:37 in length, while Wikipedia gives the running time as 83 minutes...

Stagevu has it at 83 minutes also. Perhaps you should get that one instead.

A second attempt to download was a lot quicker, thankfully - but the question is, why the heck am I confusing "The Mouse that Roared" with "Doctor Strangelove"? I guess because they both star Peter Sellers. Sorry about that... Embarassed

I love this movie. I read the book and I gotta say it's different a bunch of ways. BTW, not to nitpick, but I think it came out in 1959.
