Drop what your doing and go to this site. It includes a video that displays time-lapse photos of the ice melting around the marker placed at the North Pole!

Amazing!

It also has a photo that allows you to move the cursor back and forth to see the before-and-after shots of the lake forming. Here's a screen grab with the dividing line smack on the North Pole marker.

Cool, huh?
Very Happy

I'm wondering if anybody went to the site I posted the link for above and took a look at the lake that formed at the North Pole.

Too bad The Thing didn't crash right at the North Pole. Then he wouldn't have been frozen in the ice!

Ain't that a weird thought?
Shocked

I did. (I ALWAYS check out links!)

"Lakes" often form during warm climate events (mostly during the summer) and were used by nuclear submarines as areas to surface in. Called polynia (poll-leen-ya) by the Russians and "pollyannas" by the Americans, Canadians and Brits it is a geographical term for an area of unfrozen sea within the ice pack.

(Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polynya )
